Michael Lawrence

Mike Lawrence is a working bassist in the New York's Capital Region (Schenectady, Albany, Saratoga). 

A member of the Art D'echo Trio with pianist Dave Gleason and drummer Pete Sweeney, they have releases out on bandcamp (https://artdechotrio.bandcamp.com/track/rvg-blues) and recently recorded at the legendary Van Gelder Studio. Performing and teaching both upright and electric basses he can be heard on Michael Benedict's "Bopitude" recordings on Planet Arts and Gary McFarland Legacy Ensemble. 

He has recorded albums with the Art D’echo Trio (2025), The Piranha Brothers (2023), Gary McFarland Legacy Ensemble alongside Joe Locke, Sharel Cassity, Bruce Barth and Michael Benedict on the album "Circulation: The Music of Gary McFarland" (one of NPR’s Best Jazz Albums of 2015). He has also recorded with Michael Benedict's Jazz Vibes “1-2-3 Go!” (2022); Michael Benedict’s Bopitude "Five and One" (2012) featuring Gary Smulyan (named by Downbeat Magazine as one of the Best Albums of 2013); and Joe Finn’s “As Luck Would Have It” (2021). 

Mr. Lawrence has performed live in concert with many touring jazz artists including clarinetist Evan Christopher, baritone saxophonist Gary Smulyan, tenor saxophonist Harry Allen, guitarist Gene Bertoncini, saxophonist Dick Oatts, saxophonist Sharel Cassity, vibraphonist Steve Nelson, pianist Bruce Barth, trumpeter Ray Vega, guitarist Paul Meyers, baritone saxophonist Claire Daly, baritone saxophonist Bruce Johnstone, trumpeter Chris Pasin, saxophonist Brian Patneaude, saxophonist Keith Pray, saxophonist Mark Vinci, saxophonist Blue Lou Marini, Sonny Turner's Platters, Bobby Rydell, and Charlie Smith Blues Band among many others.
