Eve Cornelious
Eve Cornelius’s voice recalls those of the great divas of jazz, soul and r ‘n’ b. She began singing when she was a very little girl in Newark (New Jersey, USA) but she didn’t make it to the big venues until she won the BET Jazz Discovery award. Since then, she has worked alongside figures like Ramsey Lewis, Chucho Valdés, Mulgrew Miller, Norman Connors, Roy Hargrove and many more, she has travelled half the world and has played regularly in clubs like Smoke in New York, with Jeremy Pelt, among others. She has also enjoyed a brilliant solo career and has led various jazz, soul and funk projects. At the Jamboree, she will perform with a supergroup completed by the organist Brian Charete, the guitarist Telmo Fernández and the drummer Jason Brown. The concert is part of a tour prior to the recording of Telmo Fernández’s next album and includes jazz, blues and soul compositions.

Eve Cornelious is the ...

A decent voice is not enough -- and far from the most important aspect of jazz singing. Intangibles like presence, style, originality, and the all-important ability to hold your own with a swingin' band trump pure technique any ...
