Pini Shavit

"Here is a guitar player who plays with a lot of heart and soul" - Jack Wilkins.

Guitarist Pini Shavit was born and raised in Jerusalem, Israel. After showing much enthusiasm for music Pini began to play the guitar at age 14. Shortly after, his first guitar teacher introduced him to jazz.

At age 17, Pini began to play professionally with various groups around Israel and later worked with Jess Koren, one of Israel’s leading saxophone players. Over the years, Pini has had the honor of performing with Israeli musicians such as Jerry Garvel, Yitzhak Yedid, Arnie Lawrence and many more.

In January, 2001, Pini moved to New York to explore the city's vast jazz scene. Realizing the endless opportunities that lay before him, he quickly assembled his quartet and began playing in various venues around the city. In 2002 he received a scholarship for outstanding performance and ability to attend the New School University jazz program. Soon after, Pini was chosen to represent the New School as part of the jazz outreach program, performing with numerous groups as well as playing solo. While at the New School Pini has had the opportunity to study with Gary Dail, Hal Galper, Vic Juris, Jimmy Owens and Rory Stewart.

Pini currently continues to play with his quartet joined by today's leading saxophone players in the New York scene. Pini spends much of his time composing and playing music that embodies a new sound, one that incorporates both the old and new as well as sounds from the east and west. As Pini says- "If you want to know more about me, just listen to my music."
