Tiny Alligator Large Band

The Tiny Alligator Large Band is seventeen talented musicians, conducted and composed for by Caitlin Smith. They play Caitlin's original music and arrangements that work at the place where jazz, classical and pop meet, and explore the narrative side of concert music. The band has six winds (including bassoon), three trumpets, three trombones, piano, bass, drums, jazz vocalist, and an operatic soprano.

Caitlin Smith is a Toronto-based composer, conductor, arranger and clarinetist. Recently awarded a study grant through the Canada Council for the Arts, Caitlin will spend 2008-2009 studying composition with the renowned pianist and composer Jim McNeely in New York city. She is a graduate of the jazz program at Humber College, where she studied saxophone and composition. Caitlin has studied classical clarinet and classical harmony and theory through the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.

Caitlin works professionally as an arranger, copyist, teacher, and performer. Her compositions and arrangements have been performed by Chuck Owens' Jazz Surge; The Darren Sigesmund Big Band; The Sydney Improvising Musicians' (SIMA) Jazz Orchestra in Sydney, Australia; The Hamilton All-Star Big Band with the Canadian Orpheus Men's Choir; and played on the radio station JazzFM 91.1 in Toronto.
