Warren Galea
Warren Galea is a guitarist, pianist, and composer from Malta. His third and latest album - Meditations, a collection of solo guitar improvisations recorded across a period of around one year, was released in August 2023.
In 2019 he became the first Maltese artist to perform at the iconic Blue Note Jazz Club in New York City. Other international performances have included Nublu 151, ShapeShifter Lab, Rockwood Music Hall and the Bitter End (NYC), the Honey Hive Gallery (San Francisco), the Octopus Literary Salon (Oakland), the Jazz Educators Network Conference (JEN) 2019 in Reno, Nevada; the Malta Jazz Festival, the Dusseldorf Jazz Rally, Europe Day Festival (Vienna), Teatro Adriano (Cagliari, Sardegna) and 'Les Sons d' Une Ile’ (Paris).
His second album, Diadems, Troubadours, released in December 2022, travels across multiple genres and compositional forms. The album sees Warren acting as composer, instrumentalist, and producer.
In May 2019 he released his debut album - The Odyssey, recorded at Trading 8s Studios in New Jersey - a Jazz Guitar Trio record with Andy McKee on bass and Adam Nussbaum on drums. In 2014 Warren was awarded first place in the Malta Jazz Contest. The following year he released an EP with F-Trio.
A graduate of the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City, his biggest five influences are Mozart, Charlie Parker, The Beatles, Frank Zappa, and Jimi Hendrix.
