Linda Merrell

Linda Merrell was born in Cleveland, Ohio. As a child, she moved with her family to Los Angeles, California finishing her education in music and theater.

At 19 Linda went to New York City and studied with Paul Curtis at the American Mime Theatre.

In 1976, Linda returned to Los Angeles, married, and set her performing career aside in order to start a family. After her three children were grown up and on their own, she decided to once again take hold of her passion for the arts, meeting several talented musicians on her journey. Two of those musicians were a remarkable jazz pianist and a bass/trombone player, who later on, became key parts in the formation of the band.

Linda decided to broaden her music education and in 2004 went to Knoxville, Tennessee to work with a gifted arranger, Tom Johnson. While studying there she was honored to perform with the great jazz pianist, Donald Brown and sax legend Lance Owens.

In 2005, after returning to Reno, she jumped back into the music scene and created, host, and maintained the original jazz jam sessions at the 3rd Street Blues club, where she added a very unique drummer to the mix.

While performing at EJ's Jazz cafe, the last element of the band was added, a great sax player from Northern California. On that final note was the birth of a one of a kind Jazz group.

Linda has performed at EJ's Jazz cafe, the Hacienda, Stew's Brewery, "The Sierra Arts Foundation" as one of their main performers, plus several other venues in the Reno/Carson/Lake Tahoe area.

You can catch Linda and "The Notes" performing together, or Linda performing with several other incredible jazz musicians.

Her deep, smooth, sultry voice takes you back to the times when singers sounded like Judy Garland and Etta James.

**Linda's passions are light jazz, standards and ballads, but she also performs blues, soft rock and Cabaret.

****One of Linda's goals is to help support the local musicians in the Reno/Tahoe area. As of January 2008, she will be confirmed as Vice President of the AFM local#368.
