La Otra Band

La Otra Band is an experimental ensemble born in Barcelona out of La Otra Jam, a long-running platform dedicated to free improvisation that brings together musicians, dancers, poets, and visual artists. The project represents the most developed musical expression of this collective experience, translating its spontaneous and multidisciplinary nature into a “produced improvisation” format.

The ensemble gathers a fluid lineup of international musicians from diverse backgrounds, including jazz, contemporary music, and electronic experimentation. Rather than working with fixed compositions, La Otra Band builds its sound through real-time interaction, where structure emerges organically from listening, tension, and collective intuition.

Their debut recording captures this process in a studio environment, balancing raw improvisational energy with a refined sonic architecture. The result is a layered and immersive work that moves between abstraction and form, density and space, acoustic interplay and electronic textures.

La Otra Band stands at the intersection of improvisation and production, where the ephemeral nature of performance is shaped into a coherent artistic statement without losing its unpredictability. Rooted in Barcelona’s vibrant experimental scene yet open to international collaboration, the project reflects an ongoing exploration of collective creation in its most immediate and transformative state.

The project is rooted in La Otra Jam, a biweekly session held in Barcelona over the past few years, which has become a meeting point for the city’s experimental scene. The core ensemble—featuring Alba Tor (voice), Olivier Jambois (guitars and electronics), Leonardo Cincinelli (piano and electronics), Camilo Fernández (electric bass), and Mariano Camarasa (drums)—acts as a flexible nucleus, regularly expanding to include a wide network of guest artists and collaborators drawn from the international improvisation community.
