Kalen Henry

Nineteen-year-old artist Kalen Henry grew up in an eclectic musical cradle. The daughter of a school teacher and a musician, Kalen included the music of several generations and genres in her childhood tapestry. From Stravinsky to Red Hot Chili Peppers, music always had a profound effect on her.

“What I enjoy most about making music is the sounds musicians create together. Each part intertwines to form something mesmerizing, and we're all transported to an unparalleled zone where the music hijacks our souls and takes us to someplace better. A world full of people, different in almost every single way, but united by a love for the art of music— it truly is a beautiful thing.” Says Kalen.

For Kalen, singing was not so much a hobby as it was an undeniable urge. It was more instinct than the choice for her to partake in the music-making happening around her. Because of her father’s occupation as a professional musician, she was immersed into the world of the Los Angeles Session Musicians early on and received informal training from artists like Tierney Sutton. Along the way, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Imagine Dragons, Macklemore, and Adele also became some of her biggest musical influences.

Kalen underwent choral training during her time in both middle school and high school. Though she has had several solo performances, most of her development as an artist has taken place in the recording studio. Kalen enjoys the collaborative process that takes place between musicians, the attention-to-detail aspect of studio recording, and the eventual creation of something new and intensely personal. In the studio environment, she is able to use her pitch memory and her vast musical vocabulary to reimagine existing songs, create new songs, and to arrange these songs in a wonderfully unconventional way. As a new artist, Kalen hopes to bring her unique music into the world— she hopes it will reach the ears, minds, and hearts of as many people as possible.
