On December 1, Russian-born, NYC-based drummer Tima Volozh will release Jubilee, his debut recording. The album’s genesis can be traced to the benefit concert that he organized in March 2022 as a response to the war in Ukraine, where he assembled musicians who shared his concern for the situation. Citing Paul Motian as one of his major influences, Volozh first interacted with Brad Shepik and Jerome Harris while conducting his research into Paul Motian’s music – the subject of his ...

Jubilee Jazz 2012: Music to make Horace Walpole Spin?
Source:
Shahnaz Hameed
He loved to entertain. He loved the quirky. He loved the arts and left us a little Gothic house at Strawberry Hill, whose very existence pretty much sums him up on its own. He used this lovely little treasure to indulge and share what he loved with his friends. With entertainment at the heart and core of Strawberry Hill House, we like to wonder what Horace Walpole would have thought of its use as the stage for the upcoming Jazz ...

After Midnight - Live at the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee (2011)

Something Else!
By Nick DeRiso Clarinetist Roger Campbell has turned an enduring passion for swing legend Benny Goodman into a sizzling six-piece jazz project called After Midnight. It's perhaps no surprise, then, that a new live effort finds him slithering his way through Memories of You," legendarily performed by Rosemary Clooney with Goodman in the mid-1950s. That's Campbell scooting and shouting on Benny's Bugle," too. Live at the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee even employs the same instrumentation (clarinet, vibraphone, piano, guitar, bass and ...

Werner Uehlinger
On first hearing this CD may sound to you like an ill-programmed mess, with the improvisations up front and the catchy numbers buried deep. Or, the more you hear ICP's improvised instant compositions" and their instant demolitions of Misha's highly whistleable tunes, the less clear it becomes what's order and what's ...
