Jose Herrera
Venezuelan born musician, who started his professional career at the age of 16 in Maracaibo, Venezuela. Piano & Keyboard player, arranger, composer , and singer.
Moved to Aruba in 1990, where he worked as a solo piano player, for one year at the Bushiri hotel and the Paradise beach village. He played in grand acoustic pianos, by himself, no other musicians, no electronics appliances.
In 1991 he moved to Holland where he performed with three bands, playing all around music (jazz, pop, salsa, merengue) in several important cities, well known hotels and festivals. He stayed in Holland for a year and then moved around Europe, traveling to Italy, there he attended a summer festival workshop invited by the Berklee college of music. He went to Belgium and Germany with the Silhouette band. He also played on the Stenaline boats (luxury ferries that go from Holland to England) with Los Vegas band.
In 1992 he was among the 10 finalists out of 200 contestants in the Midi Award Festival patronized by Atari and Roland. He was the only latin contestant to achieve that position.
In 1993, he returned to Aruba and stayed there playing in five stars hotels for five years, with different bands: Hyatt Regency with Eduardo Maya; Holiday inn with Coco Loco band; a duo with Martin Buitenweg (Chichi Peralta’s guitar player); Costa linda resort with Amy Mendez and Richard Holmond; to name a few. He made the sound tracks for two theater plays.
In 1998, he went to Medellin, Colombia. There he played with the Corporation Medellin de jazz, as the regular keyboard player, for one year. He also made the sound track for a short footage movie named “Suele Suceder” that got a special mention in a Spanish movies festival.
In 1999,he went to Spain with Amparo Sandino’s band (former Carlos Vives’s guitar player and vocalist).
In 2000, he returned to Aruba and formed the band Vision: Lucre Houtman, singer, Richard Holmond, drummer and Jose himself as keyboard player, arranger and composer. This band played in Radisson hotel for one and a half year.
In 2002, Vision was performing on the Princess Cruises ships for about 12 months.
In 2003, back in Aruba he arranged the music for the “Let’s go latin” show, now showing at the Crystal casino theater, on Aruba.
In 2004, move to Spain where he performe with different bands & orchestras around the country.
In Shanghai, China, since 2005. Performe at MURAL bar from September 2005 till May 2006
