José António Soares Brito

Ze Soares was born in Castro Verde – Portugal - in 1965. In 1984, he started his musical studies at the Beja Music Academy and completed the classical guitar course and musical studies at the Lisbon Music Academy. He graduated in Jazz at Universidade de Évora, and attends now a MA in Interpretation. He also studied jazz guitar with Eddie Goltz and Mário Delgado at the Hot Club of Portugal Jazz School. He participated in workshops with Ron Jackson and Billy Kilson. Besides his own project, Politonia which recorded his first CD – “Lisbon “ - in 1999, he has been working with various famous Portuguese artists and groups such as Delfins, Ernesto Leite, Janita Salomé, Dulce Pontes, António Palma, Chris Alexander, Matt Lester, Melissa Walker, Carlos Carli, Jaime Muela, António Ferro, Maria Viana, Maria Anadon, Dave Gaudsen, among others. Currently his music is closer to the overall concept. Colaborations with visual artist and performer São Nunes in painting and music projects and also with dance theater, opens new horizons and more transdisciplinary conceptualizations. Usually he plays with Gonzalo Leonardo on bass and Carlos Miguel on drums, forming the trio Nine Ways. His next work, "Silence", will be presented on March 27th 2014, at the Hot Club of Portugal, with these two musicians and the special guest saxophonist Joaquin de la Montana .
