João Selva

Son of a pastor from Ipanema, João Selva is known as "one of the best ambassadors of Brazilian music" (France Culture). But not only... his sunny and abundant musical universe spans a generous palette of musical influences: from Angolan semba to Cape Verdean funana, to Caribbean zouk and Congolese rumba. In the most (im)pure Brazilian tradition, he also absorbs the influence of North American music and freely incorporates elements from elsewhere into Brazil's irresistible rhythms. The result is an invigorating dance and dream machine that updates the tropicalist revolution of the 1970s with a turbulent blend of samba, soul, jazz and funk. He is currently touring his 4th album "ONDA".
