JC Harris
So 'back in the day', I was all over the map as a musician. I started out as a founding member of the influential punk rock band Hüsker Du and then moved on to become a guitar and bass player for several Motown acts such as The Temptations and The Four Tops. Along the way I also played with many well-known jazz and gospel artists like Ramsey Lewis and The Winans and Broadway shows (Annie, Grease), wrote commercial scores (Lorzban: The Proven Way To Increase Crop Yields!) and even included a stint with the well-known public radio show A Prairie Home Companion.
But then I tried to go straight, Ossifer. I really did. And fifteen loooong years passed outside of the biz. My solo career began in 2000 with my rebirth as a professional musician. Since then, I have had the good fortune to be able to (finally) do the kinds of music that I always wanted to do, without the constraints of being a gun for hire. And now, with my trusty sidekick Gus ever at the ready, I shuttle back and forth between Dublin, IE and Seattle, WA, making the stuff you are sampling here; staying at only the swankest of Ramada Inns.

Barry Harris (1929-2021)

JazzWax by Marc Myers
Barry Harris, a jazz pianist and beloved educator whose leadership and sideman recordings celebrated bebop—the 1940s modernist movement that established a roadmap for improvised jazz—died on December 8. He was 91. Though Harris was too young to have participated in bop's birth or initial popularity in the years immediately after World War II, the Detroit-based pianist caught the tail end of the first wave. In particular, he was influenced by and adored Bud Powell and Thelonious Monk, bebop's founding-father pianists, ...

Francois Houle's, Alexander Hawkins' And Harris Eisenstadt's Collective Trio Will Release You Have Options On November 9 On Songlines

Source:
GoMedia PR
This collective trio was born when the late (and greatly missed) Ken Pickering, co-founder and artistic director of Vancouver’s jazz festival, recommended Alexander Hawkins for the piano chair in a new Houle project for the 2014 festival. Houle already had Brooklyn-based fellow Canadian Harris Eisenstadt in mind—Harris had recently toured and recorded in his 5+1 project (Genera, Songlines 2012). And Eisenstadt and Hawkins had played together for years in the collective Convergence Quartet. The Oxford-based Hawkins however was unknown to ...
