Jan De Haas

Jan de Haas developed at an early age an interest for music, especially for percussion instruments. He studies for three years at the Berklee College of Music in Boston (USA). His real professional activity starts in 1981, when he gets hired as a drummer by the BRT radio big band.

In 82, the year of his return to Europe, he wins a First Prize at the Jazz Hoeilaart European Jazz Contest. Since then, He has been a very active drummer, who played with many Belgian and international artists of the jazz scene: Chet Baker, Phil Wilson, Toots Thielemans, Philip Catherine…

As a leader, Jan De Haas released his first album in October ’99, For the One and Only on the IGLOO label, an album on which he plays the vibraphone. A second album as a vibraphonist came out in 2003 on DE WERF label, titled “Doing My Thing”.
