Jakob Rehlinger

Jakob Rehlinger is a Canadian multi-instrumentalist, composer and improviser living in south Etobicoke, ON. His music is typically somber in tone and draws inspiration from early electronic musicians and ambient new age artists as well as Scandinavian jazz and 20th century minimalist composers. Previously he performed and released music as BABEL until 2018 when he chose to abandon the moniker and operate under his own name. From 1999 to 2019 he ran the boutique micro-label Arachnidiscs Recordings which featured an array of international artists working in similarly textural and adventurous instrumental music styles. Rehlinger also plays in the psychedelic rock bands Moonwood, Heavy Moon, and Stargoon, and the post-punk band Void Fill.

"Brooding, layered ambience becomes a noise floor for the signals of uninvented instruments. Like the 1970s and ’80s pioneers before him, Rehlinger balances the reproduction of organic sounds against the design of self-consciously artificial ones." ~ A Closer Listen
