Hearing Things

In 2012, saxophonist Matt Bauder approached his practice space and heard through the door wild rock n’ roll sax and organ, another band already playing inside. He assumed the space had been accidentally double-booked, but when he walked in, he found the room empty. He thought, "I'm hearing things" and had the idea to start a new band chasing after the crazy sounds he thought he’d heard.

Since then, Hearing Things has toured nationally as main support for Nick Waterhouse and Will Butler (Arcade Fire). Currently, Hearing Things plays once a month at Brooklyn’s Barbés, the band’s favorite music bar.

Hearing Things plays instrumental music recalling an era where instrumental hits were all the rage. Through the compositional imagination of saxophonist Matt Bauder, their material channels early rock & roll, surf, jump blues and north african soul while retaining a modern surrealist approach. Bauder’s unique perspective comes partly from working with such free jazz luminaries as Anthony Braxton, Rob Mazurek and Taylor Ho Bynum as well as indie rock icons Arcade Fire, Father John Misty, Iron and Wine, and Haim.

Vinnie Sperrazza (drums) JP Schlegelmilch (organ) are mainstays in the Brooklyn experimental jazz scene and separate the band from the garden variety garage rock throwback.

Se il nome di Bauder non vi giunge nuovo, la spiegazione è semplice: con ogni probabilità lo avrete incrociato ...
