Grammofon releases new single “Backwards” – the first
glimpse of the upcoming album Fabelagtige Forviklinger
The Danish jazz duo Grammofon, consisting of saxophonist Niels Oldin
and guitarist Jakob Frandsen, has just released their new single
“Backwards”, available now on all major streaming platforms. The single
offers a first taste of their upcoming album Fabelagtige Forviklinger – a
collection of timeless jazz compositions at the intersection of tradition and
modernity.

The two musicians met back in 1996 while studying at the Royal
Conservatoire in The Hague. After returning to Denmark, they taught at
the same folk high school on the small island of Ærø, shared an
apartment in Copenhagen, and later moved out of the city around the
same time to settle with their families. Over more than two decades of
close musical collaboration, they have developed a remarkable musical
connection and an intuitive interplay. The result is warm melodies, playful
improvisation, and an inviting, outward-facing tonal language.
“Backwards is an honest and atmospheric piece of music
into which we have both poured our hearts and
energy,” say Niels Oldin and Jakob Frandsen.
Melodic energy and poetic lightness
Fabelagtige Forviklinger draws inspiration from bossa nova and tango,
blending complex melodies with a playful and welcoming tonal landscape.
These are wordless songs where guitar and saxophone create a sensual,
melodic universe with space for reflection, presence, and musical depth.
The album is a true collaboration, where composition and improvisation
go hand in hand. Solos rarely take center stage but instead serve the
shared musical narrative.

About Grammofon

Grammofon is a Danish jazz project led by saxophonist Niels Oldin and
guitarist Jakob Frandsen, creating melodic and atmospheric jazz rooted
in both classic and contemporary traditions.
Niels Oldin is a graduate of the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague and
has performed with several leading Danish jazz ensembles, including the
Monday Night Big Band and Ole Kock Hansen’s A Very Big Band.
Jakob Frandsen, born in 1968, holds a Master of Music from The Hague
and has received several accolades, including the Mother of Jazz Award
at Jazz Concours Breda. He has performed at major festivals such as the
North Sea Jazz Festival and composed music for jazz ensembles as well
as theater productions.
