Federico Chiarofonte

He began studying drums at the age of ten, in 2012 he enrolled and attended the Conservatorio Santa Cecilia in Rome studying with Roberto Gatto and Ettore Fioravanti. In 2019 he received his master’s degree in "Cantiere Infinito" dance-musical improvisation techniques. In 2021 he obtained the Academic Diploma of II level in Drums and Percussion Jazz with 110/110 and praise. In 2021 he enrolled again at the Conservatory to continue studying jazz composition with Pietro Leveratto. In 2023 he graduated in Jazz Composition with a grade of 110/110, cum laude and honorable mention. Active as a composer with projects in his name in the field of jazz and contemporary music and as a drummer and percussionist. He has played in festivals such as Il jazz Italiano per le Terre del Sisma, Novara Jazz, Direzioni Altre, Equilibrio Festival della Nuova Danza, Mascagni Festival, Paje Festival, 52nd Jazz Festival, Ritratti d'Artista: Soundin' Action, Taranto Jazz Festival, Velletri Jazz Festival, Choirs Jazz Festival, Siena Jazz EuJAMM, Tolentino Jazz, Muntagn In Jazz, National Festival of Conservatories.

Underbrush is the first project led by drummer and composer Federico Chiarofonte. The title is appropriate as it alludes to the undergrowth from which biological forms emerge, as well as a secure space where concepts can flourish. Those natural world elements are also reflected in many of the track titles, all eight of which were composed by Chiarofonte.
