Eliott Knuets

This 18 year old Belgian guitarist started playing guitar at the age of 6. Initially immersed in the musical world of rock, he quickly developed a passion for jazz. He trained with Peter Hertmans and Bert Cools. When he was only 16 years old, he had the great fortune to jam with Wynton Marsalis during a tour in Belgium. Marsalis spotted him and invited him to play at Dizzy’s Club in New York for a virtual session (Covid obliges!). Afterwards, Eliott was invited to play with the Brussels Jazz Orchestra for a live session. We find him at the opening of the Django Folllies 2022 festival and then on the big stage of BOZAR for a concert featuring his own compositions.

His playing is enriched by the influences of many musicians he listens to and appreciates such as Pat Metheny, John Scofield, Mike Moreno, Lage Lund, Peter Bernstein, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Jesse Van Ruller, Brad Mehldau, Herbie Hancock, Joshua Redman, Wynton Marsalis… In January 2021, Eliott recorded his first album with Olivier Collette (piano), Sam Gerstmans (double bass), Daniel Jonckers (drums) and for a few tracks, Stéphane Guillaume (tenor sax, soprano & flute) and Peter Hertmans (guitar). Here is the teaser of the album.

Ross underlines the contrast via jazz compositions from Bill Evans ("Fun Ride") and Horace Silver (the closing “Sister Sadie") and his own groovy curtain-raiser, “Baking Magels." The ...

Florian Ross Octet: Tunes & Explorations

Read "Tunes & Explorations" reviewed by Pierre Giroux

Florian Ross is a German-born composer, arranger and jazz pianist who has a fondness for releasing albums with double names which began with his debut release Seasons & Places (Naxos Records, 1998). He has continued with that “idée fixe" in almost every year in which he has delivered a release. This year is no exception; the latest incarnation is Tunes & Explorations, an octet session given over (with one exception) to the exploration of some well-known compositions from the Great ...
