Eddie Lee

Born in Dublin in 1961, Eddie grew up in Sligo and is steeped in its music scene. A self-taught musician with a career spanning 20 years as bassist, producer, composer and recording artist, Eddie has toured internationally and/or recorded as bassist in the rock and pop world with Juliet Turner, Those Nervous Animals, Brian Kennedy, The Pale, Auto da Fe;, Katell Keineg, Nine Wassies from Bainne and in folk territory with Stocktons Wing, Maura O Connell, Dolores Keane, Kieran Goss, John Faulkner, Frances Black, Gary O Briain, Colm O Donnell, Seamie O Dowd, Speranza, Dervish and Cafe Orchestra. Eddie has also collaborated on projects with Enya, Bill Whelan, Donal Lunny, Liam O Connor and co-produced many recordings in a wide range of genres over the the years. Eddie has been performing regularly over the past two years in the Left Bank Sunday jazz club with many stalwarts of the Irish jazz community such as Michael Buckley, Phil Ware, Richie Buckley, Justin Carroll, Michael Nielsen, Louis Stewart and international jazz artists such as Sandro Gibellini (Italy), Veronika Stalder (Switzerland) and Niels Rosendahl (Australia). Originally an electric bassist, Eddie took up double bass mid-career while playing with several Irish folk music acts, though his love for jazz began eventually to express itself in his learning and playing. Eddie has been teaching bass and music theory in Sligo since 1999, having studied at various periods with Mike Nielsen, Rufus Reid, Eric Revis, Sandro Gibellini, Philip Donkin, Greg Burk and Arnie Somogyi amongst others.

Eddie currently performs as bassist with:

NoCrows, an eclectic gathering of musicians from different cultures and influences well known locally for its Wednesday residency (still running) in Shoot The Crows bar in Sligo. This group performs a heady mixture of tunes with classical, jazz, world and folk influences. No Crows features Steve Wickham, Fiddle, Anna Houston, Cello & Mandolin, & Felip Carbonell, gtr - released their first album "Live at the Strand" in Dec 06. New CD "Magpie" out July 2008. The Odd Couple, Sligo based piano trio. Eddie also performs with Rhumbatism, a Latin music quintet featuring Felip Carbonell, gtr, Eddie McFarlane, gtr, Ken McDonald perc, plus regular special guest, Mike Nielsen, guitar. Rhumbatism performed at Sligo Jazz Festival 2006 with Mike Nielsen, Veronika Stalder and Richie Buckley and Strandhill Guitar Festival 2005 with Mike Nielsen and Veronika Stalder.

Sligo Jazz Project has announced the faculty for its 2008 Sligo International Jazz Summer School (SJP 2008), Ireland's biggest ever jazz summer school, which runs from August 5-10 inclusive in the beautiful surroundings of Yeats Country in Ireland's northwest.
