Djinn Carl Lewis

Trained as a Classical vocalist at the prestigious Cathedral of St. John the Divine in NY, Carl performed with them in venues such as Philharmonic Hall, Carnegie Hall, Rockefeller Center, et al. After graduating from the Cathedral he sang for two years with the Little Church around the Corner (the Actors' Church) performing in Broadway shows such as Annie, West Side Story and Le Turandot. After a hiatus of over 30 years music has come full circle in his life through two separate events. One is his involvement with Marcia Miget's Miraflores Music and Academie as Operations Manager and vocalist in one of her bands. The second is the recent reconnection with one of his vocal coaches from 6th grade, concert pianist and conductor coach, Dr. Kenn Gartner. A percussionist endorsed by AfroRhythms Exotic Percussion and Brazilian cymbal maker, Harpy/Krest, 2007 sees his first project and group, 'ElDaz y YouT', combining contemporary lyrics with music influenced by his Caribbean heritage, Classical European tutelage and the funky rhythms of New York in the 1960s. With work as a visual artist in six museum collections Carl's 'imajinnation' combines the music, imagery and characters (like his alter ego, QyotI with the ubiquitous udu stereo) he's developed over the last two decades with current technology to produce ... what you'll just have to see and hear.
