Dexter Goldberg

Born in 1987 in Paris, Dexter Goldberg is the son of professional musician parents. He began music with percussion and quickly devoted himself to composition and improvisation. He only started playing the piano at the age of 16 but very quickly developed his creative universe there. From 2007, he studied with Olivier Hutman, Misja Fitzgerald, Philippe Baudoin.

In 2010, he was already hired by the American saxophonist Ricky Ford (Charles Mingus, McCoy Tyner etc.) for 2 CDs: "7095" (Harmonia Mundi) and the "Sacred Concert". He also met the drummer Sangoma Everett with whom he toured internationally.

Dexter then joined the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris (jazz and improvised music section) where he studied composition, piano, rhythm with Pierre De Bethmann, Dré Paellmaerts, François Thébèrge and Riccardo Del Fra. The same year he played with the famous Benny Golson in the festival "Les Tombées de la Nuit".

He recorded his third CD with his father Michel Goldberg in quartet (CD "Pure Imagination") and appeared with various groups ("Ricky Ford Duo", "Robin Mansanti Trio," "BzH Crew" with Maxence Ravelomanantsoa, ​​etc.).

He won the 1st prize of the Conservatoire de Paris in 2014 and decided to form the Dexter Goldberg Trio, with which he won the "Fresh Sound" program and the Honorary Prize in the jazz section of the Léopold Bellan International Competition.

Since 2015, Dexter Goldberg's talent has continued to reveal itself through the places where the partners who trust him (Sunset-Sunside, Jazz à l'Ouest, Prysme). Dexter also has an intense sideman activity and is regularly called upon to play with American and French jazz musicians (Ralph Moore, Gene Perla, Jason Marsalis, Steve McCraven, John Betsch to name a few).

After a tour in Quebec, the trio recorded their first album "Tell Me Something New" and released it on the Jazz&People label in 2018, it will be generously praised by the press.

Dexter Goldberg performs at the biggest Jazz festivals in France (Jazz in Marciac, Marseille Jazz des 5 Continents, Jazz à Vienne, Avignon Jazz Festival, Saint-Omer Jazz Festival, L'Anglet Jazz Festival, Lille Piano Festival etc.).

He collaborates with Parisian musicians and regularly records albums.

In 2022 he recorded a new album in trio with drummer Raphaël Pannier and double bassist Clément Daldosso, this one is called "Caliboudja".

The album is released in September 2023 on the Jazz&People label and is Choc Jazzmagazine and Indispensable Jazznews. The CD is among the 40 best international albums of the year 2023.

The trio is on an international tour for the release of the album with the support of Adami and Spédidam (Japan, Spain, Belgium, France).
