David Miller
Dave Miller is a drummer, improviser, dance accompanist, and educator. His work specializes in avant-garde, free jazz, experimental and improvisational musics, having performed worldwide from Japan to Sweden, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Slovakia, Austria, Beglium and the Czech Republic.
Significant projects having toured worldwide include Tzadik recording artists PET BOTTLE NINGEN (with Nonoko Yoshida and David Scanlon), GSI Studio band KARL 2000, Legendary American producer Martin Bisi, and guitarist-conceptualist Ryan Clackner. Miller's work is based in acoustic drum and percussion aesthetics with predominantly improvisational performance ideology. Major musical collaborators include Daniel Carter, Rob Duguay, Satoko Fujii, Chuck Bettis, Natsuki Tamura, Robert Boston, Jonas Labhart, Blaise Siwula, Otomo Yoshihide, Toru Tenda, Nobuyoshi Ino, David Schnug, Welf Dorr Unit, Brad Farberman & MIDDLE BLUE and Marco Cappelli's ITALIAN SURF ACADEMY. Dave also works with the contemporary classical ensemble S.E.M. (directed by Peter Kotik) which has performed work by and alongside Roscoe Mitchell of The Art Ensemble of Chicago.
Dave has worked in many areas of the music industry including managing live music venues, behind the scenes activities with recording studios producing albums, assisting record labels such as Dave Douglas’ Greenleaf Music, and an operating tenure at the prestigious CD shop Downtown Music Gallery in Manhattan. Currently Miller works as an accompanist in the prestigious dance department at Barnard College, as well as with the Jose Limon Dance Company , The Martha Graham Dance School, and Ballet Tech NYC Public School for Dance.
His private releases are on his DIY label Dried Orange Records.
