David Hulett
Hulett has been playing drums since age 4, and has logged countless hours in the studio for various projects for various groups and has played for the likes of Carnival Cruises, Disney, Marcus Miller, Critt’s Juke Joint, Gruvology, The Michael Jackson Tribute Tour, The Black Eyed Peas, T.I., Kendrick Lamar, Christopher Hopper Band, GRAMMY- nominee Eric Roberson, Siri Music Group artist Miesa, Philicia Collins of The David Letterman Show, organist Lonnie Smith, Bobby Jones of BET, Joseph Wooten, and a long list of others. The church was a major facilitator to master his speed and versatility, and he credits jazz and blues as his biggest influences. Hulett attended the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts, where he also graduated. He majored in music at Villa Maria College, and was quickly offered the opportunity to do studio work for former Capitol Records engineer, Peter Hopper, and would join Peter’s son Christopher, touring, writing and recording in the US with the Christopher Hopper Band. An invite from former Arsenio Hall Show bassist, Jerry Livingston to, to do fill-in gigs all over town, he was personally invited by radio personality, Duane Price, to put together a band for gospel great, Bobby Jones, of BET. The success of the show allowed for band leader roles at NYC Fashion Week, led by two-time GRAMMY- nominated Eric Roberson. Hulett joined Gruvology, an established multi-award winning jazz ensemble, playing professionally in the Northeast and Europe, including New York City. Hulett is the bandleader of “The Phaction,” with which he tours often, along with recording artist Chuckie Campbell. His touring got him involved with the 2015 SXSW Music Festival, which included a set alongside Chris Rivers, Ras Kass, Killah Priest, and Pete Rock, earning a USA Today press feature. He hold numerous instrument endorsements.
