Das Ende der Liebe
Das Ende der Liebe (DEDL) is an improvising quartet from Köln/Berlin: Andreas Völk (guitar, voice, live beats and sound processing), Laurenz Gemmer (Yamaha CP70, Ableton Live), Kenn Hartwig (bass, Nintendo Game Boy) and Thomas Sauerborn (drums, synthesizer). "Trip Music" is how the quartet describes itself, after one of their album titles. The four come from jazz and have turned their instruments into something of their own, with countless effects, preparations, live sampling and a drum kit built for this music.
A DEDL concert is one single continuous piece, usually between one and two hours: every piece comes into being in the moment, improvisation and hypnotic repetition carry each other, and the sound remains recognisable, psychedelic, sensual and wild, danceable as soon as the room wants it. They play in techno clubs and jazz clubs, at festivals and in off-spaces, on ships, in bunkers and planetariums, often with live visuals by Lucas Grey.
All records are released on the band's own label Anunaki Tabla. The whole archive lives in DEDL MEGAWORLD: megaworld.dasendederliebe.de

"The Cologne-Berlin band moves into a palace of sound with connections to electronics and free jazz. Welcome to the echo-drenched sound palace of these alchemists."

"DEDL takes the listener on adventurous sound trips throughout."

"Since Joe Zawinul at the latest, we know how a continuously played four-four beat from the bass drum grooves and pushes. This beat is also decisive for the Cologne quartet with the cryptic name Das Ende der Liebe, because it is the foundation for their multifaceted improvisational music."
(Martin Laurentius, WDR)
