Cairo Steps

Cairo Steps is a German-Egyptian music ensemble founded in 2002 by Basem Darwisch, an Egyptian-German oud virtuoso and composer. The band uniquely blends oriental rhythms, Sufi traditions, jazz, classical music, and modern sounds to create a cross-cultural musical dialogue between East and West. Their mission is to transcend cultural, political, and religious boundaries, building musical bridges between Europe and the Middle East. Cross-Cultural Fusion: The group regularly collaborates with musicians from Egypt, Germany, and other countries, combining jazz improvisation with oriental melodies. Awards: In 2018, Cairo Steps and the German band Quadro Nuevo won the prestigious German Jazz Music Award in Gold for their album Flying Carpet. Cairo Steps is widely recognized for creating musical bridges between East and West. Their unique style, international collaborations, and cultural depth have made them an influential voice in modern world music and jazz.
