Antonio Floris
Antonio Floris is a guitarist, composer, and improviser from Sardinia, currently based in Rome.
Born in Mogoro (OR) in 1993, Antonio began playing the alto Eb flugelhorn, trumpet, and percussion at the Banda Musicale Mogorese when he was eight years old.
He fell in love with the guitar at fourteen, and at eighteen he began studying jazz guitar with Maestro Massimo Ferra.
He earned his bachelor’s degree cum laude from the Conservatorio “F. Venezze” in Rovigo in 2016, and his master’s degree cum laude from the Conservatorio “Santa Cecilia” in Rome in 2019.
In 2018, he won the “Premio Marco Tamburini”, a prize for jazz soloists.
In 2021, he won the International Jazz Guitar Competition “Jazz Guitar Award”. The jury was composed of five leading figures in jazz guitar in Italy: Fabio Zeppetella, Bebo Ferra, Umberto Fiorentino, Roberto Cecchetto, and Sandro Gibellini.
In 2023, he passed the audition for the “ONJGT – Orchestra Nazionale Jazz Giovani Talenti”, led by Maestro Paolo Damiani. He is one of the three guitarists in the orchestra.
In July 2025, he released his debut album, “Errori di Deprogrammazione”, recorded and produced by WOW Records. Antonio recorded the album with his long-standing quartet, featuring Vittorio Solimene on piano, Gabriele Pagliano on double bass, and Cesare Mangiocavallo on drums, with guest appearances by Francesco Fratini on trumpet in two tracks.
In August 2025, Antonio won one of the most prestigious international prizes for jazz guitar, “Il Genio di Eddie Lang”, at the 34th edition of the Eddie Lang Jazz Festival. The winner was chosen by the artistic jury, chaired by renowned jazz guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel.
Antonio has collaborated with some of the most prominent figures in the national jazz scene, including Fabio Zeppetella, Marco Tamburini, Daniele Tittarelli, Marco Valeri, Antonello Sorrentino, Daniele Sorrentino, Nicola Angelucci, Luca Mannutza, Paolo Recchia, Vittorio Solimene, Stefano D’Anna, Paolo Carrus, Francesco Fratini, Enrico Bracco, and many others.
He has performed at some of the most important festivals and jazz clubs in Italy, including Casa del Jazz, Auditorium Parco della Musica, Il Jazz Italiano per le Terre del Sisma, Teatro Massimo di Cagliari, Time in Jazz, European Jazz Expo, Culture Festival, Alexander Platz, Gregory’s Jazz Club, San Teodoro Jazz Festival, Calagonone Jazz Festival, Pedras et Sonus Jazz Festival, PerBacco Jazz Club, Charity Café, Ai Confini tra Sardegna e Jazz, Forma e Poesia nel Jazz, Jazz Nights at Casalini Garden, Torrione di Ferrara Jazz Club, and Radio X Social Club, among many others.
