Al Lloyd & His Orchestra

British arranger, composer, and saxophonist Al Lloyd has become a regular name on the UK Jazz and Soul scene over the past 5 years. As a teenager, he cut his teeth playing saxophone in the ranks of legendary British bandleader Mike Westbrook, and also recorded with members of Motown’s legendary studio house band, the Funk Brothers.
By the time he was in his early 20’s, Lloyd started to gain attention as an arranger and composer and found himself being hired by legendary acts like the Drifters, and the Chairmen of the Board to write arrangements for live tours and recording dates.
As a composer and producer, he has achieved 4 chart entries on the Amazon R&B Best Sellers Chart (including 2 consecutive number 1’s for Dayton Grey) and a top 20 hit on the UK Soul Chart. As well as being featured on the BBC and other national radio stations, his music has been released on labels including Warner X5/SoulMusic Records and on vinyl by Cordial Records.
Now armed with his Big Band, featuring the cream of the South West’s jazz talent, Lloyd has recorded a new album ‘Mosaics’ which includes compositions of his own, as well as his arrangements of other tunes from jazz standards to Motown classics. Heavily influenced by the likes of Duke Ellington, Gerald Wilson, Charlie Barnet, and Henry Mancini as well as classic Motown and Soul music, the broad range of styles creates a unique and dynamic sounding band.
