According to the Sound

Adam and Patrick met as composition students in their first week at Birmingham Conservatoire. Since then, they have worked consistently, writing, and recording music in a variety of musical styles ranging from Jazz (mainly) to electronica and rap. A key feature of their music is their close collaboration with musicians in Bristol and in the US, particularly in New York and their consistent use of Studios in Bristol, in London (Premises studio, Alchemy mastering) and New York (The Bunker studio) in order to focus their sound. They are currently working on their third album.

Adam

Born and raised in Hackney Adam was surrounded by many genres of music from a young age. His father, who organised piano lessons for him, was a musician and would play his own music as well as jazz and Soul recordings in the house.

This environment pushed Adam to start writing his own music, at first at the piano and then began to explore the music software logic. In 2016 Adam started attending the Julian Joseph Jazz Academy which provided him with some of the best Jazz education possible in Britain, uncovering the depth and richness of Jazz music as well as inspiring his own passion for composition and real, authentic musical expression.

Adam took a part-time job in order to afford a four-month trip to Havana, Cuba where he studied with two fantastic piano players in the Havana Music School. With them he studied the foundations of popular Cuban music, the clave being the very core. The beautiful, natural complexities of Cuban rhythm and harmony as well as the sheer determination of the musicians he met, resonated strongly with Adam, reinforcing his passion for one’s own musical expression.

After returning back to the UK Adam was ready for a university education and began studying Composition at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Not only has he continued to write production based music, Adam has explored his love for improvised, acoustic music manifesting in the album Prism-a-Ning by AccordingToTheSound. He has also explored a new territory which is of the contemporary music scene, composing for orchestral instruments as well as the organ.
