About the Album

For several years I wrote the music for and led a jazz quartet in performance for a contemporary church service. One of the people that volunteered their time was a man named John. Prior to retirement, he was a stage actor and even worked at Disneyland as an entertainer (which we talked and reminisced about endlessly, as I was a member of AACB 14). He’s a friend and wonderful person, so one week I wrote this tune to surprise him at the service. Sunflower Song is the debut album by Kansas City-based jazz trombonist and composer Brian Scarborough. Featuring nine original compositions performed by his Kansas City-based quintet, the album showcases the talents of some of the wonderful and creative individuals that call the midwest home.
