Opening the album, “They Say There Are Beautiful Trees” starts soft with a simple motif, drawing the listener in as the music gradually builds to a lush melody with all members of the band. As the music simmers down following this first section, a dialogue begins between Liany Mateo’s bass solo and Luther Allison’s piano comping, launching a second more dramatic gradual build in excitement and intensity until the song’s conclusion with a soft statement from the opening melody.
