About the Album

The instrumental "Israel" was written by trumpeter John Carisi in 1949. He wanted to write a new form of blues, and reportedly called his composition "Israel" because the state of Israel was also new that year. It was made famous by Miles Davis in his "Birth of the Cool" sessions in 1957. In 1985, lyricist Ray Passman (of "Bebop Lives/Boblicity" fame) wrote words to the song, and gave it the title "It's Your Dance".
