About the Album

To me, this rendition of the classical American standard merges instrumental phrasing with vocal expression, embodying the jazz ethos of treating the voice like a horn. “Moody has an attractive baritone voice, and a very appealing jazz phrasing, in the tradition of Eddie Jefferson and Jon Hendricks…his horn like phrasing, and choices of notes…sticks to the meaning of the lyrics, while making the song sound fresh and a little unpredictable.” - Scott Yanow, noted jazz journalist. Billie Holiday is the foundation, Carmen McRae is the natural evolution, my hope is that my interpretation of “Body and Soul” (and subsequently my upcoming album “The Ecstasy of love” set to release summer 2025) reflects, refines, and expands upon Billie and Carmens legacy of technical mastery and deep emotional intelligence; navigating the emotional and harmonic contours of a song, seamlessly weaving musical ideas and phrases together.
