Buddy Rich: The Channel One Suite
Let the audience forever be amazed and in wonderment or your art...
Johnny Carson on Buddy Rich
Now, 18 years later, through the efforts of three production companies (Scabeba Entertainment, Reber Productions and Lobitos Creek Ranch) and several sound facilities, Buddy Rich and His Band: The Channel One Suite has been fully restored and enhanced on DVD.
Featuring a 60-minute performance of the legendary drummer Buddy Rich and his Big Band, never before seen interview segments, behind-the-scenes footage and special features with Johnny Carson, Frank Sinatra, Jerry Lewis.
Buddy and his band had not done a major recording for more than five years prior to 1985 and with his death in 1987 The Channel One Suite set stands as the last recorded production of the legendary drummer. Original producer Gary Reber (Reber Productions) ensured that this would be a concert to remember and enlisted the support of many of the sound industries major players. The production was recorded with an experimental SQ/Tate digital surround method, a revolutionary technique at the time. Scott Ross was the Director of the original concert.
The meticulous attention to every detail makes the disc a must have for Buddy Rich fans. Buddy's performance is nothing less than stellar, and the peeks behind the scenes give everyone a birds-eye view of Buddy off stage as well as on.
Special Features including an interview with Buddy on the importance of preserving the Big Band Jazz sound are included and producer Reber is also featured showcasing the revolutionary recording techniques which included creating two of the worlds largest condenser microphones. The microphones were made of Plexiglas and hovered over the band. They weighed over 200 hundred lbs. each. Other features of the disc include: "Birdland", a bonus track that was recorded in surround and also two photo galleries taken during the performance.
