Chick Corea / John McLaughlin: Five Peace Band Live

Read "Five Peace Band Live" reviewed by Chris Kompanek

From the psychedelic cover art to the expansive and innovative playing, Five Peace Band Live is a throwback to the great live albums Miles Davis made in the late-1960s-1970s, with some of the same musicians. Chick Corea and John McLaughlin actually met in 1969 during the recording sessions that would become the classic fusion albums In a Silent Way and Bitches Brew (both on Columbia). Five Peace Band Paramount Theatre Denver, CO March 25, 2009

The reunion of Chick Corea and John McLaughlin—together for the first substantial time since their days with Miles Davis recording In a Silent Way(Columbia, 1969) and Bitches Brew—may be the most obvious feature of their new collaboration, Five Peace Band; but anyone hoping for a throwback would be disappointed. Corea and McLaughlin have been around the musical world dozens of times since those days, ...
