Album Description

The WANU solo bass guitar project took shape in 2020 after two years of research and composition on this instrument. The idea of a solo bass guitar project came about as a result of a functional dystonia of the left hand, a disability that sometimes occurs after periods of intense work and stress. After a total stop of several months and consultation of several specialists, Sébastien Pittet resumed playing the bass and explored other instruments such as the guitar and the piano in a first therapeutic purpose. He then discovered other instrumental and compositional techniques that led him to sketch his first pieces on the electric bass. It is an atmospheric, dreamlike, intimate music with a jazz approach and in which folk, experimental and rock colors are mixed. The compositional processes used are inspired by both classical music and the narrative concepts of the psychedelic rock movement of the seventies in which expression and improvisation have a predominant place. A deep and enchanting sonic journey, accentuated by the characteristic low register of the bass guitar. This project is inspired by reflections on resilience, destruction and reconstruction and echoes the history of life on earth, the place that humans occupy and how they will overcome the challenge they impose on the planet and therefore on themselves.
