Album Description
While Dark continues to make downtempo, electronica versions of the classic american songbook (a second CD with Hong Kong producer Pete Millward nears completion), as well as covering Joy Division, this new CD features UK musicians at the top of their game, creating an entirely different mood and atmosphere. The songs may be old - many of them were written in the 1930's and 40's - but the arrangements are completely different. And with the talents of Sean Freeman of Level 42 on sax, Francesco Mendolia from Incognito on drums, Paul Harvey, sideman to Tom Robinson and Prefab Sprout on guitar, Russian virtuoso Victor Unukovsky also on guitar, together with brilliant pianist and arranger Rick Laughlin, not forgetting additional superb drumming from Marc Parnell, some astonishing guitar playing by Adrian Sledmere and fine back up on percussion from Andy Dewar, Trouble In Paradise blazes a trail all of its own. The first CD album Songs For Suicidal Lovers garnered many tributes and enthusiastic reviews on its release.... "It's an edgy, but engaging experience..." Mathew Scott - South China Sunday Post "An understated tour de force" - Gina Morris - evolution of media "He's here to stay" George W Carrol - ejazz news "... the album is a dark and brooding journey through cover versions as diverse as Frank Sinatra and Joy Division. " Adam Wright - Outtakes - South China Morning Post
