Playing With Playlists: Playing With Playlists

Some years in jazz are famous. Most notably was 1959 when some of the most groundbreaking albums of all time were released such as Kind of Blue, The Shape of Jazz to Come, Mingus Ah Hum, Time Out, and Giant Steps.

But I don't own just those, I own 61 albums that were released in 1959—albums by Sun Ra, Art Pepper, Bill Evans, Chet Baker, Donald Byrd, and Thelonious Monk. Yes, jazz is endless.

In the 51 years I've been listening to and collecting jazz, my collection has become both wide and deep, with an interest in just about anything, as long as the quality was high and the feeling was real.

I listen to most of my jazz through iTunes playlists channeled through various devices and sound systems. No records or CDs for me anymore! No, I curate my music into an endless variety of playlists that become like specialized jazz radio stations.

And this is what my blog, Jazz Playground, is about—jazz playlists.
