Stan Getz and Flora Purim

Stan Getz
Duration: 3:02
1,226 views

This musical combination may have been a one-off. It's dated 1969, so if that's correct, it succeeds Stan Getz's collaborations with João Gilberto. Flora Purim was probably in her mid-20s in this video and it must be one of the few times, or only time she played guitar in public.

Rachelle Ferrell & George Benson: Everything Must Change

Rachelle Ferrell
Duration: 6:56
2,236 views

Rachelle Ferrell's performance on this standard could be one of the most powerful jazz vocal examples in the history of the genre... period. Her range spans low alto to supersonic whistle tones, while her jaw and lips bend in ways rarely seen, achieving a horn-like quality. Her vibrato is flawless and the strength of her “pipes" could power a cathedral organ. When you're a young singer like Ferrell in 1991 who stuns her fellow soloists George Benson and harmonica legend Toots Thielmans, you know you have a magical career ahead of you,

It is suggested you start with Ferrell's first notes at [2:16] through to the end, then replay from Benson's opening of the piece.

"Gunnhildr" Live at The Watermelon Room

Wide-Eyed Lounge Cats
Duration: 2:14
1,652 views

Following the success of their third studio album The Watermelon Sessions (released 2023), Wide-Eyed Lounge Cats return to the studio where it all began to record a live performance of their original song “Gunnhildr”. The studio, known as the Watermelon Room (based out of Baltimore, MD), became a critical element in the band’s evolution into jazz fusion, allowing them the space and presence to explore, test, and ultimately discover themselves through a shared musicianship. The album and its tracks pay homage to that journey as live performers and studio musicians. The featured song demonstrates the band’s unique ability at bending genres into a powerful array of sounds, and the composition draws inspiration from old Norse folklore and mythology. The video was recorded by Marshall Veth and the audio mixed by Garrett Long, their original engineer (and founder) of the Watermelon Room.

Andrea y Carla Motis ft. Giuseppe Campisi Live from Sala Villanos, Madrid

Andrea Motis
Duration: 2:34
1,128 views

Andrea and Carla Motis have shared many hours of concerts together, but until recently, they had not decided to work as a duo, which with each passing concert becomes more consolidated. Andrea appreciates her sister's taste for risk, for the most “iconoclastic and non-conformist" jazz, and Carla highlights Andrea's “extreme ease" in adapting to all contexts, from the classic jazz with which she began to be known for to the Latin American repertoire or the funk that have shaped her last two record ventures. Together, they propose an intimate and bold duo, subtle and decisive, open to all kinds of sounds.
