Stew Cutler Guitarist/ Composer: So Many Streams
New York City guitarist and composer Stew Cutler began his professional career at 19-years old with ZZ Hill. The easy, downhome groove of Hill's blues stuck with the young Cutler and after time away, he carried them back to New York City, refined and polished. Cutler's musical facility was equally refined and polished.

On his present recording, So Many Streams could be a functional metaphor for all of the rich tributaries informing his music. Over 10 songs, Cutler carves carefully crafted musical sculpture. He does this with a relaxed and funky tone that he never overdrives. The simple funk of "Post Time," the adult contemporary of "Not to Worry," and the churchy slide guitar of "The Grindstone" show the different facets of Cutler's talent, both in composition and guitar playing.

"Sparrow in the Kitchen" was co-composed and sung by Jeb Loy Nichols and has an interesting alt-country vib inspired by Dan Fogelberg. Cutler throws off several Brad Paisley licks with ease. "Ardells Theme" is a Dixie Dregs funk vamp. Cutler is most inspired here, filling the spaces with Bob Dylan's "thin, wild mercury sound" heated to boiling. So Many Streams is an exceptional recording by an equally exceptional musician.

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded albums and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, limited reopenings and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary step that will help musicians and venues now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the sticky footer ad). Thank you!
