Chris May is editor of the British style and culture magazine Jocks&Nerds. In the 1980s he was editor of the pioneering magazine Black Music & Jazz Review. His most enjoyable years in the record business itself were when he worked for producer Bill Laswell. He is the author of several books including African All-Stars: The Pop Music Of A Continent (Quartet Books), and edited Vibes From The Scribes (Pluto Press), a collection of verse by the Last Poets. Recent liner note assignments include Partisan (UK), World Circuit (UK), Cuneiform (US) and Knitting Factory (US), for whom he has written track commentaries for every release in the label's ongoing Complete Works series of his longtime friend Fela Kuti. He has written on and off for All About Jazz since 2004.
