All About Jazz eclipsed the 20,000 Alexa.com ranking mark making it one of the highest ranked websites in the world. With a current rank of 19,566, AAJ has joined an elite group of music websites like PopMatters.com and JamBase.com.

“It's doubtful we'll ever challenge the likes of RollingStone.com (2,194) or Billboard.com (1,639), but our current rank is phenomenal for a niche music website... and we don't have the support of a national print brand," stated Michael Ricci, founder and publisher of All About Jazz. Said managing editor John Kelman, “AAJ is a popular destination for several reasons--allowing the industry to freely broadcast news through our syndicated News Service is one of them."

As a publicist, what does Alexa.com mean to you?

As a publicist, you can benefit from downloading the free Alexa.com toolbar (for IE and Firefox users only) and viewing various website rankings. You'll find this tool useful when determining if a website or blog is worth servicing for music. Any site in the top 100,000 is considered premium.

About the Alexa.com Ranking Service

Alexa computes traffic rankings by analyzing the Web usage of millions of Alexa Toolbar users and data obtained from other, diverse traffic data sources. The information is sorted, sifted, anonymized, counted, and computed, until, finally, we get the traffic rankings shown in the Alexa service.

How many sites does Alexa rank?

Alexa Toolbar users have visited over 11.2 million unique Web sites. Alexa only provides rankings for sites which our Toolbar users have visited in the past 3 months--all other sites will show “no data" for their ranking.

However, please keep in mind that Alexa's traffic rankings are designed to tell you how far a site is from #1, not how far it may be from the lowest-ranked site. We can tell you for sure which site receives the most traffic, but the bottom of the list is in constant flux. Many new sites are added to the Internet and are discovered by our Toolbar users every day, and old sites are constantly being deleted

How are Alexa's traffic rankings determined?

Alexa's traffic rankings are based on the usage patterns of Alexa Toolbar users and data collected from other, diverse sources over a rolling 3 month period. A site's ranking is based on a combined measure of reach and pageviews. Reach is determined by the number of unique Alexa users who visit a site on a given day. Pageviews are the total number of Alexa user URL requests for a site. However, multiple requests for the same URL on the same day by the same user are counted as a single pageview. The site with the highest combination of users and pageviews is ranked #1.
