My Jazz Story
I'm a newbie to songwriting but have already been awarded medals from the Global Music Awards, the American Songwriting Awards and others, for some of my works. I approached jazz singer Renae Suttie late last year to record over some of my digital recordings. Renea transmitted her enthusiasm to her band which has resulted in a live recording at the Bison Bar in Nambour, Queensland culminating in a CD album titled: “Renae Suttie sings the Brian Ford Songbook Vol I”.
Renae & I have spent the last 6 months working on the scores to 14 of the songs so that professional musicians could “hit the ground running” during rehearsals.
Renae’s singing is backed by her quintet consisting of some of the finest musicians on the Sunshine Coast: Marnix van Bruggen, piano; Andrew Suttie, tenor/soprano sax; Arron Bool, guitar; Brendan Scully, acoustic double-bass and Max Sportelli, drums. This eclectic collection of professionals has made my songs “come to life” in their first live performance to a paying audience, in a Supper Club event hosted by TRIOs at the South Pacific Resort, Noosaville. The event was sold out and people had to be turned away! Paradoxically, this is encouraging.
One of the patrons that night summed is up for me thus: "The new Jazz sound. Original songs in a modern niche. Refreshing, new jazz"
