Jon Jang: Tiananmen!

Read "Tiananmen!" reviewed by AAJ Staff

Though a modern release, this beautiful document of Jon Jang's efforts to infuse the Asian American experience into jazz music can even be seen today as the ground breaking classic that it is. True to the evolving nature of the music, it is one of the most unique and innovative creations of the times. And it has a depth of meaning and soulfulness that is found at the heart of all great jazz.

Jon Jang: Self Portrait

Read "Self Portrait" reviewed by Glenn Astarita

Self Portrait is pianist/composer Jon Jang’s first CD for “Asian Improv Records” in over 10 years. A label in which he and others, such as composer/saxophonist/producer Francis Wong organized and launched back in 1987. Since then, Jang has gone on to carve out a noteworthy reputation as an often brilliant pianist/composer and bandleader who possesses the distinctive qualities of a modern day visionary who draws upon his Asian heritage as a source for inspiration and musical implementation. All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
