Learn to play and improvise quintessential African-American spirituals, and then explore contemporary and gospel styles to create your own arrangements. Tunes may include Down by the Riverside, Go Down Moses, Just a Closer Walk with Thee, Swing Low, Sweet Chariot, Wade in the Water (a la Ramsey Lewis) and even a few Christmas selections so you’ll be ready for the holiday season. As always, assignments include options to accommodate a range of ability levels. This class is for you if: Your piano ability level is intermediate or above. You have a fundamental knowledge of chords and scales. You’re a moderately experienced improviser. Time: 1:30 - 2:45 pm Eastern Show another time zone. (A second class time may be added to keep class size small.) Dates: September 4, 18, October 2, 16, 30, November 13, 27, December 11.
