About this image

Maria has recorded with Richie Cole, Warren Vaché, George Robert, Krishna Booker and Phil Dwyer. Her début album Where or When consists of 13 songs, each one delicately arranged by Torben Oxbol, resulting in a full, lush, elegant and unique sound. The songs are receiving airplay on The Penthouse Radio in New York. “Just a Touch” was chosen as bumper music on Coast to Coast AM. Songs from the début album were also featured on WAMC/Northeast Public Radio, CBC Radio across Canada, DR P1 and DR P8 Jazz in Denmark. The album is also featured Saturday mornings on KUVO in Denver. Her second album Smile, which will be released in 2015 features another collection of beautiful songs with full and lush arrangements by Torben Oxbol, a graduate of The Royal Danish Conservatory of Music in Copenhagen.  In addition, the second album features the acoustic arrangements of Phil Dwyer, a JUNO award-winning saxophonist, pianist, composer, arranger, and Member of the Order of Canada.  Ian McDougall, featured on “You And The Night And The Music,” is a JUNO award-winning trombonist, composer, arranger, best known for his work with Rob McConnell’s Boss Brass, where he was the lead trombone and soloist for 20 years. Some of her favourite composers and lyricists include Rodgers and Hart, the Gershwins, Johnny Mercer, Henry Mancini, Jerome Kern, Alan and Marilyn Bergman and Antonio Carlos Jobim. She is drawn to this genre of music for its beautiful melodies and lyrics that are witty, intelligent, poetic and subtle. These are timeless songs written by some of the greatest composers of our time. It is vital to keep the beauty of this art form alive.
