White Foundation International Sax Competition launched with the Montreux Jazz Festival

The White Foundation International Sax Competition will be held for the first time at the Montreux Jazz Festival in July 5 to 20, 2002. And will take place in the magnificent Montreux Palace Hotel overlooking Lake Geneva and the Alps. The ten to fifteen finalists selected to attend the Competition will have a chance to enjoy the Montreux Jazz Festival and meet musicians from around the world. Application forms have been sent to music colleges and clubs in many countries or can be obtained from the Montreux Jazz Festival. The jury includes Jean Toussaint as well as other leading saxophonists.

Jeremy White, the Competition founder confesses “I want to give the opportunity to talented players around the world to showcase their work to an international audience. The winners will have a real boost to their careers.”

“As one of the worlds leading jazz projects we have always valued music education as well as helping young artists. I believe the International Sax Competition adds another exciting programme to our Solo Piano Competition and workshop activities.” Claude Nobs, the founder of the Montreux Jazz Festival adds.

To enter musicians have to be born after 1st January 1972 and be pursuing a professional career. They are competing for a galaxy of prizes including a record deal, festival and club engagements, artist promotion, a Selmer Ref 56 and several cash awards.
