What Fans Are Really Paying for the Music They Love...

FREE. It's a term we toss around every day, yet the word is ultimately a misnomer. For starters, even 'free' Spotify users or file-swappers are paying for access, it's just that ISPs typically control the tollbooth. But even beyond that discussion, 'freeloaders' are paying with their time, even if everything feels like free. And 'time' often means 'hassle,' as in the hassle of searching, sifting, organizing, or even dealing with things like viruses and pop-up ads.

In many other situations, music acquisition involves a combination of time and money, with often healthy servings of both.
