Don't be stuck in the past but retain the greatness of it. And live in the moment, live in the future." -- Wallace Roney
Wallace Roney is a three-time Grammy Award winning Jazz Master. From being an acclaimed prodigy of Miles Davis to becoming one of Jazz music’s most influential leaders, Roney has set himself apart by continually raising the musical bar, not being satisfied with merely recreating the sounds of Jazz tradition but striving to push the genre forward. His illustrious career boasts performances with such musical greats as Art Blakey, Walter Davis Jr., Herbie Hancock, Sonny Rollins, Carole King, Joni Mitchell and none other than Miles Davis himself. “Please put those very tired and very old Miles imitator barbs aside: Roney is a terrific Miles-influenced trumpeter with amazing chops and tremendous stylistic range.” – Dave Wayne of Jazz Weekly
Wallace Roney's new High Note CD, Mystikal, coming in October….
With Mystikal, Roney continues to explore the deep, expansive chemistry he established with his crew on Prototype. Returning to the tightly-knit unit are his wife Geri Allen on acoustic and electric piano and synthesizers and his younger brother Antoine Roney on tenor and soprano saxophones and bass clarinet. Augmenting that potent triumverate of soloists are Matt Garrison on acoustic and electric bass, Adam Holzman on synthesizers and Eric Allen on drums. Val Jeanty on No Room For Argument and replaces DJ Logic on turntables this time out) provides spoken word interludes and other little ‘ear cookies’ along the way while former Weather Reporter Bobby Thomas Jr. also contributes percussive colors on a couple of tunes.
