Kim received the 2000-2001 American Composers Orchestra Composer Fellowship resulting in “Eternal Rock," a composition for komungo and orchestra to be premiered at Carnegie Hall on March 18, 2001.

With an international reputation as a komungo virtuoso, Kim is building a body of compositions to feature the instrument. A strong composer who's work combines the energy of Buddhist-influenced Korean court music and Shamanistic Korean folk music, Kim's pioneering compositions have been performed by the Kronos Quartet, the Chamber Orchestra of Lincoln Center and the Xenakis Ensemble.

She's also improvised on record with Derek Bailey, Henry Kaiser and Eugene Chadbourn, finding an audience for her improvised music in Berlin, especially. Her improvisatory music has been featured during past New York Vision Festivals. Quagmire has performed for 4 years though are unrecorded.

Oliver Lake is a founding member of the World Saxophone Quartet, and the Village Voice has called bassist William Parker “The most consistently brilliant free jazz bassist of all time".

Jin Hi Kim will present a multi-media lecture demonstration on Korean music at Aquinas College before Quagmire's concert at the UICA. “Jin Hi Kim's Living Tones" is a multi-media lecture-demonstration of Korean music and Kim 's musical principals. At Aquinas College, Grand Rapids, Friday, October 6th at 12:30 p.m. in the Art and Music Center Rehearsal Hall. Free.
